The Myanmar India Collective – the Myicol – is an informal group of Indian scholars, researchers, observers and Myanmar enthusiasts who are interested in India-Myanmar relations and therefore in the study of the history, politics, geopolitics, security, social, cultural and diplomatic aspects of an important neighbour, including in the context of India’s Northeast. This website is managed by a small ‘core team’ of Myanmar researchers who follow the country very closely.
The Myicol aims to raise Myanmar consciousness in India and the wider South Asian region by creating a repository of information and knowledge taken from a variety of sources. We aim to keep this endeavour apolitical in nature, and hope that it contributes to strengthening the age-old relationship between the two countries.
Angshuman Choudhury is a Senior Researcher and Coordinator of the South East Asia Research Programme at the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS), New Delhi. He is also a former GIBSA Visiting Fellow to the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), Berlin. He primarily works on the ethnic armed conflict, political dynamics and foreign relations of Myanmar, in addition to India’s relationship with Southeast Asia and the politico-security situation in Northeast India. His writings on these issues have appeared in various Indian and international publications. He has a Masters in Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding from Durham University, UK.
Cchavi Vasisht is a Research Associate at Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), New Delhi. She has an M.Phil. from the Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) and an M.A. in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Cchavi aims to submit her doctoral thesis in the CSAS, and has been awarded the UGC NET Senior Research Fellowship to pursue her research work. She works on Myanmar’s economic, political, social and international relations. She also publishes a monthly round-up on Myanmar, alongside analytical commentaries and papers, for VIF.
Win Maw is a Senior Officer at an international NGO based in Yangon, Myanmar. He holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration. He also translates news articles on Myanmar from English to Burmese language for local news outlets. He is a keen observer of political developments in Myanmar, particularly in areas bordering India and China.
Dipannita Maria Bagh is a Fellow at the Centre for Eastern and North Eastern Regional Studies-Kolkata (CENERS-K). She is pursuing her Ph.D. in Political Science from the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, and is working on Myanmar’s period of transition. Dipannita has an M.Phil. from the Institute of Foreign Policy Studies, Kolkata, and an M.A. from the Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies, University of Calcutta. She has also studied Beginner’s Level Burmese from the Institut Français de Birmanie, Yangon, and holds a Diploma in Burmese language from Manipur University.
Alakh Ranjan is Assistant Director in the International Division at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He has a Masters in International Relations and Area Studies from Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi. His key interests lie in soft power diplomacy and geopolitical dynamics in the Indo-Pacific Region. Alakh is also interested in Indian and Chinese investments in Myanmar.
Hnin Wint Nyunt Hman is an affiliated researcher at the School of Public Policy, Chiang Mai University. She previously worked as a researcher at Myanmar-ISIS. She is currently conducting research on the external relations of Myanmar post-February 2021
